The Richelieu Leger Family
By Joycie Lege Broussard and Sue Lege Neveaux
The 3rd Richelieu Leger Family Reunion, held in Abbeville on April 23, was a great success. Approximately 133 people attended, traveling from surrounding areas as well as Texas, Oklahoma, Nova Scotia, Canada and Alabama.
President Butch Leger paid tribute to Evelyn Lege, wife of John Irvin Lege, foundress of the Richelieu Leger Association, who passed away January 4, 2005. She will be deeply missed. We found out just how much so, while planning this reunion. There was definitely a void.
Entertainment for this event was provided by a dance and story telling group, "Renaissance Cadienne". Everyone throughly enjoyed their singing, dancing and related stories and skits in French. The group members were Natial d'Augereau, May Waggoner, Lois Theall, Harry Leonard, and Brent Badon.
Music for dancing during this event was provided by disc jockey, Troy Frederick.
As always, the food tables were loaded with the best foods and desserts.
Hopefully, other family members will consider joining us in the future. Our reunions are always a great way to get together, visit, and meet cousins from all over that we otherwise would not have the opportunity to meet. We are all looking forward to the next reunion.
Raffle winners were Connie Rost, homemade patchwork quilt made by Arine (Leger)Prejean; Kristie Neveaux, Leger Crest lap throw also made by Arine Prejean; Fr. Austin Leger, a beautiful painting by Eunice (Bergeron) Leger, (wife of Sherwood Leger); Wilma LeJeune, Turquoise necklace and earring set made by Lou Leger; Mr Pickney, mantle clock donated by Sue and Ken ; and R. Broussard, boiled crawfish donated by Chez Francois Seafood (Oran Leger).
Two framed "Leger Crests" were presented - one to the oldest member attending, Mrs Lillian Goodwin, from Jennings; and the other to the person who traveled the farthest, Thelma Richard from Oklahoma. We appreciate both of them attending.
We would like to thank everyone who donated door prizes given throughout the day, they were appreciated and enjoyed.
A great time was had by all.
