    There may be some confusion yet as to whether a Lege/Leger/Legere family is from the La Rosette Leger line or the Richelieu Leger line.  For many years it was thought that all Louisiana Leger's were traced to La Rosette, but in recent years, we have found it is not so.  If you can trace your ancestors back to Michel Leger and Angelique Pinet, your ancestral line goes back to the Richelieu Legers.

(This was verified by the University Of Mocton, Genealogy Dept, when Michel dit Richelieu's Baptism record was found in Quebec. His Father was Jean dit Richelieu Leger, not Jacques LaRosett Leger.)

    The Association maintains genealogical Database with over 100 thousand 

names.  Not all carry the Leger surname, but do carry the bloodline.

   Many members have contributed to our database. We do not verify, but take data as given.

Information on generations carrying other surnames may be limited due to limited space.

Also available for research is the Southwest Louisiana Records by Rev. Donald J. Hebert. Volumes 1  (1750)  thru 47 (1915). The Parishes included in the records began with St. Landry and St Martinville, which eventually became Lafayette, St Mary and Calcasieu as well.  This set of Records are also available to the public in most Louisiana Libraries. 

Also a smaller set of South Louisiana Records are also in Libraries. This set covers Parishes Lafourche and Therreborne, 1794-1920

(Birth location, Aubigny is abt 140 miles distance from where Etienne was baptized.
It would have been very unusual to travel so far at that time, leaving a little doubt about whether we found the actual parents.)

He was the first of our Leger line to come to America.
They settled in Quebec, where they lived and raised a family.

Sixth generation: Michel Leger born March 28 1729 in Quebec, Canada

married to an Acadian,  Angelique Pinet, 

born 1739 in Louisbourg, Ile Royale, Canada
who, as a widow, came to settle in Louisiana in 1785 with her three sons;

Michel Prosper, Louis and Jean Baptiste.
